# Edit a Role

This article explains how to edit a custom role in the MSP Portal. Roles can only be edited **within the node they were created in**.

Only users with the **Modify Roles** permission can update custom roles

Users assigned to the role will have their access updated automatically.

# Edit a Role
To modify an existing role’s permissions or configuration within the MSP Portal, follow the steps below:

        Sign in to the **[WatchDog MSP Portal](https://app.watchdogsecurity.io/)**
      </Step>
      <Step>
        From the account context switcher, select the MSP Portal
      </Step>
      <Step>
        From the Left Hand Navigation Menu, select **Users**
      </Step>
      <Step>
         Select the **Roles** tab
      </Step> 
       <Step>
        (Optional) Under **Node,** select the node the role belongs under
      </Step>
       <Step>
        Locate the role you want to update.
      </Step>
       <Step>
        In the **Actions** column, click the **⋮ (Actions Menu)**.
      </Step>
       <Step>
        Select ✏️ **Manage**
      </Step>
       <Step>
        Update the role as required:

        Click 💾 **Save**.

Changes take effect immediately.
